What is 8D audio?
8D audio is an effect that makes sound appear to move in a circle around your head. It uses HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function) processing to simulate 3D positioning. The effect only works with headphones.
Do I need headphones for 8D audio?
Yes. The 3D spatial effect relies on the difference between what your left and right ears hear. Speakers cannot reproduce this. Use any headphones or earbuds.
Can I control how fast the sound rotates?
Yes. The speed slider goes from 0.1 Hz (very slow, one rotation every 10 seconds) to 2 Hz (fast, two rotations per second). The default of 0.25 Hz is one rotation every 4 seconds.
Does this upload my audio to a server?
No. The panning effect is applied using the Web Audio API's PannerNode with HRTF mode, entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
What is HRTF and why does it matter for 8D audio?
HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function) models how sound changes as it travels from a position in space to each ear. The browser's built-in HRTF dataset shapes the frequency of each pan position to simulate 3D depth. This is what separates 8D audio from simple stereo panning.
How do I add the 8D audio effect to my own song without software?

Does 8D audio work with any genre of music?
The effect works best with songs that have clear stereo separation, like pop, R&B, and electronic. Vocals and lead instruments create a strong rotation effect. Dense mixes (heavy metal, orchestral) still work but the movement is subtler because more elements fill the stereo field.
